Reiki

You may be starting to hear about Reiki a lot more these days in the scope of alternative health practices and find yourself wondering exactly what it is.  Reiki can be explained and I will do my best to outline it for you however, it is something that needs to be experienced to truly understand.

Reiki is a natural system of “touch” healing that originated in Japan many years ago.  It is a healing modality that encourages relaxation and aims to relieve suffering.  The thought process behind it is that the energy flows from the practitioner to the recipient through the palms and the energy flows in and throughout your body to wherever it is needed.

Reiki (pronounced Ray-key)  means Universal Life Energy and is made up of two words:  Rei meaning the source of the energy and Ki, the energy’s movement in us.  There are various forms of Reiki however I will be discussing the Usui method, started by Mikao Usui.

How does it work?
This question cannot be fully answered but know that it does work.  You do not have to believe or be attuned to have Reiki work on you… you simply need to be open to it.  The best way to understand it is to experience a session.  The practitioner can do a healing in “hands on” mode or if you prefer not to be touched directly, in a “hands off/hover” mode; the energy can still be felt and transferred in both modes.

What does it feel like?
You may feel a few different sensations during a Reiki session.  More then anything, you may feel a heat coming from the practitioner’s palms… even when they are no longer applying it to the spot that you are feeling sensation in.  You may feel coolness instead, or just feel a tingling.  The energy is shifting within you and sometimes it is felt strongly, sometimes it is felt not at all.  Even if you do not feel anything, the energy has been transferred and it is working inside of you.

Who can benefit from Reiki?
Anyone can benefit from Reiki.  In the least, it can help you to relax, clear your mind and balance your energies to promote good health.  Some people may simply say that it made them feel relaxed, while others may feel that it “healed” their pains.  Reiki is different for everyone, which is why it is so hard to explain in words.

If you are interested in experiencing a “free” mini Reiki session to try it out, please contact me for an appointment time.
